Welcome!
Carine is a South African-born, retired Computer Systems Analyst, living in Lawrenceville, New Jersey with her husband Harvey. They have three grown children. Carine started her experiences with glass at the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen in Richboro, Pennsylvania. There she attended many bead making courses until the Guild dismantled its Richboro chapter. She then set up a studio at home and worked on her own to develop her technique and style in this art form.
The art of glass fusing was always an interest that stayed on the peripheral, but kept her attention as it allowed for larger pieces of work. She found, and studied under the experienced and talented artists at Warm Glass Studio in Clemmons, NC, owners and operators Brad and Jody Walker. Here she learned about all aspects of glass fusing, also taking advanced level courses to go “beyond two layers” where she learned how to work with multiple and complex layers, creating dimension and interest in design. Carine studied in person under many masters of the art, such as world-renowned glass artist Marty Kremer, to expand her skills of fusing, cold working and professional finishes. She has also studied, amongst others, under Bob Leatherbarrow, famed creator of the 'Crackle Technique' at the Weisser Studios in Washington, DC., Kekki Cribbs, Emma Varga and multi-medium glass-rock artist Weston Lambert of Utah, who teaches the art of combining glass with stone, metal, wood and other textured materials to push the limits of glass. Carine enjoys collaboration with other forms of art, and often displays her creations on forged iron stands.
She is a member of the Red Tulip Gallery artist co-op in New Hope, Pennsylvania, selling her creations both in the gallery as well as on their popular website (www.RedTulipCrafts.com). Carine is a member of The Princeton Arts Council in Princeton, New Jersey, as well as the Creative Collective Meetup Group of Mercer County, NJ. Her work has also developed a strong following at the annual ArtJam pop-up art show fundraiser in Princeton, which benefits the work of HomeFront, a company that strives to eliminate homelessness in Mercer County. Carine is currently pursuing various ways to incorporate recycled glass in her line of glass offerings.
